Oral Psoralen Photo Chemo Therapy
The Vitiligo patients suffering from segmental Vitiligo are valid contestants for Oral PUVA in the patient takes a prescribed dose of psoralen by mouth about 2 hours before exposure to artificial UVA light or sunlight. The dose of UVA is adjusted until the skin areas being treated become pink. This treatment for vitiligo is usually given for two or three times a week, but never 2 days in a row. The doctor may suggest psoralen to be used with natural sunlight exposure. Careful precautions should be taken if carrying out treatment at home. Dermatologist may also schedule checkups for monitoring the patient if the treatment is carried out at home.Taking psoralen orally may result in nausea and vomiting, itching, abnormal hair growth, and hyperpigmentation. The treatment is not at all recommended for children.
