De-Pigmentation Theory

De-Pigmentation Theory is the treatment of choice who have failed every theory of treatment for Vitiligo or who have more than 50% of the body surface affected with Vitiligo. The major side effect of de-pigmentation theory is local irritation of skin, which initially affects uninvolved skin. This manifest itself as redness or itchiness. Because of possibility of irritation of skin, it is primarily begin with a test site such as forearm if no irritation occurs then the further treatment is proceeded. De-Pigmentation theory usually requires at least one year of treatment.

It is important that the other members of the household not be exposed to the agent of de-pigmentation as it is quite dangerous so it is recommended not to avoid contact of those part with other and keep them covered.

Another drawback of bleaching is that once de-pigmentation is complete, small areas of re-pigmentation may occur in chronically sun-exposed area of the body. This can be reduce by frequent and daily use of sunscreens.
