Contact Vitiligo

Vitilig is a relatively common skin disorder, in which white spots or patches appear on the skin. These spots are caused by destruction or weakening of the pigment cells in those areas, resulting in the pigment being destroyed or no longer produced. Many doctors and researchers believe that Vitiligo may be caused by the exposure to certain chemicals many of which are found in the production of Leather, Plastics, Soap, Printing Ink, Detergents, Photographic Chemicals etc. Such a Vitiligo is known as Contact Vitiligo, Occupational Vitiligo and Chemical Leucodarma.

Chemicals associated with Occupational Vitiligo (Chemical Leucoderma) include: Phenol & Catechol Derivatives; PTBP; Hydroquinone & Monoethyl derivatives; MBEH; Butylated Hydroxytoluene; Sulfhydryls; β- Mecaptoethylamine HCL; Sulfanolic Acid; Arsenic compounds; Chloroquine; Benzoil; Peroxide; PPD, Benzyl Alcohol.
